PEC convocation a traditional affair

Chandigarh: Punjab Engineering College on Saturday celebrated its 54th Convocation, with Punjab governor Gulab Chand Kataria as the chief guest of the event. Just like last year, the students were dressed in traditional Indian attire.

After the inaugural ceremony, Prof Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, director of PEC, formally welcomed and felicitated chief guest Kataria. The governor, in his address, said that PEC has a glorious legacy of more than 100 years. Addressing the students, the Punjab governor said, "Learning & education never stops. The challenge to achieve the National Mission of Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @ 2047, is on the shoulders of these young graduates." While sharing the nuances of life, he felt pride in the fact that India is excelling with leaps and bounds, and PEC as a technical institute is contributing to national growth.

A convocation souvenir was released by the governor of Punjab during the occassion. Around 496 B.Tech degrees were awarded to students of various branches of engineering during the day. Moreover, 63 M.Tech Degrees were awarded to PG students. Out of the total 763 degrees, 573 students were awarded the degree in person, while 190 students were awarded the degrees in absentia at the 54th Convocation 2024.

Twins shine at PEC with Over 9.5 CGPA

Kanika and Kanisha Kaur, identical twins from Noida, made waves at Punjab Engineering College’s (PEC) 54th convocation. Both sisters scored over a 9.5 CGPA, with Kanika not only topping the Computer Science Engineering branch with a CGPA of 9.73, but also bagging the coveted gold medal for academic excellence.

The duo, said that their journey was made easier by having each other. “Being in different branches didn’t stop us from taking the same electives,” said Kanisha, who pursued electronics and communication engineering.

The twins, who have always had a passion for math and science, now have to decide whether to pursue an MBA or an MS next.
