Hoax bomb threat triggers search op in flight, airport

Mohali: A bomb threat to Hyderabad-Chandigarh flight caused panic in Shahid Bhagat Singh International Airport, Chandigarh. Four other flights in India got a similar threat on Saturday.

Mohali Police , CISF and Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials responded swiftly, cordoning off and thoroughly inspecting the airport.

Upon landing, the Hyderabad-Chandigarh flight was immediately isolated by security agencies. The flight carried over 150 passengers. Mohali Police and CISF personnel checked each passenger’s luggage. Additionally, the entire Indigo aircraft underwent a thorough inspection. Other flights and passengers remained unaffected during this search process.

The investigation of the Hyderabad-Chandigarh flight, Indigo Airlines 6E108, which landed at 12:45 pm, lasted for around three hours. Indigo's threat team and Mohali police promptly arrived at the scene, conducting intensive search of the aircraft and its passengers. The bomb disposal squad examined all areas. Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek personally oversaw the investigation, accompanied by DSP Kamalpreet Singh and airport police station in-charge Satwinder Singh.

According to DSP Amarpreet Singh, the Indigo head office received a Twitter message claiming the presence of bombs on five flights, including Indigo 6E108. Despite the extensive investigation, no suspicious items were found, leading the police to conclude that the threat was a hoax. Authorities ha also ve initiated an investigation to identify the individual responsible for spreading the false information. Police said other flights that received bomb threat were 6E 58 going from Jeddah to Mumbai, 6E 184 going from Jodhpur to Delhi, 6E 17 going from Mumbai to Istanbul and 6E 11 going from Delhi to Istanbul.
