Leopard Captured After Days of Fear in Rural Udaipur

Udaipur, April 26 — In a major relief for villagers, a leopard was captured on Saturday morning in Bachar village near Keli Talab after being trapped in a cage set up by the Forest Department. The leopard had been creating panic in the area for several days, prompting residents to report the situation to authorities.

Upon receiving the information, a forest rescue team arrived at the scene, secured the leopard, and transported it safely to Udaipur for further care.

Three Leopards Spotted, Economic Loss Reported

According to locals, at least three leopards had been sighted repeatedly around Bachar village and neighboring areas. These leopards were reportedly entering cattle enclosures and preying on livestock, causing not only widespread fear but also economic losses among villagers dependent on animal husbandry.

Following multiple complaints, the Forest Department took swift action and placed a baited cage on Friday. Officials confirmed that meat was used to attract the predator. Early Saturday, villagers spotted the trapped leopard and immediately notified authorities.

The leopard was carefully rescued and placed under departmental care. However, two more leopards remain active in the region, officials have confirmed.

Search for Remaining Leopards Intensifies

The Forest Department has stepped up its monitoring efforts, installing additional cages and increasing patrolling to capture the remaining leopards and ensure public safety.

Officials have urged villagers to stay vigilant, avoid going outdoors alone at night, and secure their livestock within protected enclosures. They also encouraged immediate reporting of any wildlife sightings to the department.

Authorities noted that incidents of human-wildlife conflict, similar to those seen in Ranthambore and other sanctuaries, are becoming more frequent in rural areas around Udaipur. To address this growing challenge, the department plans to launch awareness programs aimed at fostering coexistence between humans and wildlife.
