Firefighters rescued a puppy from a flood channel in southern California as a strong storm swept through the US state on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Oxnard, a city west of Los Angeles, and was captured on video. The small dog was rescued by firefighters of the Ventura County Fire Department.
“The dog had become stranded on a small cluster of debris at the end of a fast-moving current. Firefighters used a 35-foot ladder to reach the pup and bring her safely to dry land,” the Ventura County Fire Department said in a statement.
The video of the rescue shows firefighters extending the ladder while a member of the team entered the water to pull the puppy to safety.
The dog, believed to be a 3-year-old female pug or French bulldog, was unharmed. She had no tag on her collar and was not microchipped.
She is now in the care of Ventura County Animal Services, which hopes her owner will come forward. If no one claims her, she will be put up for adoption.
