Vice President Kamala Harris during a recent campus visit faced a confrontational protester at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who accused the US of complicity in what he termed as "genocide" in Gaza.
Responding to a protestor Harris said that she wants a ceasefire and a hostage deal, "I want the war to end," she said. However, she was interrupted by the protester who continued, “What about the genocide? What about the genocide though?” In response, Harris acknowledged the protester’s right to voice his concerns but insisted that she had the floor to speak.
The protester continued, citing the number of children reportedly killed in Gaza and questioned the allocation of US funding to Israel. Harris responded by affirming the reality of the issues raised, saying, "Listen, what he’s talking about, it’s real. That’s not the subject that I came to discuss today, but it’s real, and I respect his voice."
Following this, university police escorted the protester from the room.
Before the meeting, Harris's motorcade passed by pro-Palestinian demonstrators on campus, with chants of “Free, free Palestine” echoing in the air.
In related remarks, Harris addressed the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, suggesting it might present an opportunity to end the war in Gaza. She called for a resolution that ensures Israel’s security while also addressing the humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people.
