NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president YS Sharmila on Wednesday alleged that she was placed under house arrest by the chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led government and asked him the reason. Later, she was released and was seen holding a rally.
Taking to X, Sharmila said that she was confined in her villa in Vijayawada .
" Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister garu, why am I house arrested in my villa in Vijayawada? For what reason? Please tell the people of AP," said Sharmila in a post on X.
Questioning if going to her workplace, the Congress office, is a crime, she asked, "Why are you trying to curtail our constitutional rights? What is your govt afraid of?".
After getting released, Sharmila, during a rally, asked the state government why she was put under house arrest.
"It has been only 2 days since the Congress party in Andhra Pradesh has formed a committee called Amaravati Capital Committee. The Congress party has only formed this committee with a group of 6-7 people. The govt is scared that we're forming the committee...What is Chandrababu Naidu trying to hide? There were so many police personnel to curtail one lady and one party? Andhra Pradesh stands at number 3 in atrocities against women. The police laid their hands on me," she said.
