NEW DELHI: The Indian government on Saturday condemned the abduction and killing of a prominent Hindu figure in Bangladesh, stating that it followed the pattern of systematic persecution of Hindus under the interim government and asked Dhaka to protect minorities instead of inventing excuses.
The body of 58-year-old Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a resident of Basudebpur village of Dinajpur, about 330 kilometres northwest of Dhaka, was recovered on Thursday night, The Daily Star reported. He was abducted by four men and brutally assaulted, according to local media reports.
"We condemn this incident and once again remind the interim govt to live up to its responsibility of protecting all minorities, including Hindus, without inventing excuses or making distinctions," ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal added. According to Indian govt sources, the interim govt in Dhaka hasn't shown any sign of taking reports of violence against minorities seriously. Bangladesh has described some of these reports fake news.
