US Army suspends Fort McCoy commander over 'missing photos' of President Donald Trump, VP JD Vance

Send Push
The US Army has suspended Col. Sheyla Baez Ramirez, the garrison commander at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, from her role. This move came after the US Army Base failed to install photos of President Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth . The photos were meant to be on a wall displaying the base's chain of command at the US Army base in Wisconsin. This follows a Defence Department investigation into why the display featured empty frames where those official portraits should have appeared. Confirming the action, Hegseth reshared a post on the social media platform X (earlier Twitter) that said: “Commander of Fort McCoy, whose base chain-of-command board was missing photos of Trump, Vance and Hegseth, has been SUSPENDED.”

What the US Army said about the suspension

In a statement, the US Army Reserve Command said: “This suspension is not related to any misconduct. We have no further details to provide at this time while this matter is under review.”

The Department of Defence also took to its Rapid Response account on X to confirm: “Regarding the Ft. McCoy Chain of Command wall controversy…. WE FIXED IT! Also, an investigation has begun to figure out exactly what happened.”

The post includes a photo which shows the wall in the US Army Base has now been filled with the ‘missing’ frames.

Ramirez took over as garrison commander in July 2024. Before that, she served as chief of the Reserve Program at the US Army Intelligence and Security Command in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and held various positions across the Army and Army Reserves.

The decision to remove Fort McCoy’s commander followed a wave of leadership changes across the US. military.

Earlier in the month, the Pentagon dismissed the commander of Pituffik Space Force Base in Greenland, Col. Susannah Meyers, after she sent an email appearing to contradict Vice President JD Vance’s remarks during a visit. The Space Force cited a loss of confidence in her leadership and emphasised the importance of remaining non-partisan.

Additionally, Hegseth dismissed four employees after internal disputes and an investigation into leaked messages from a private Signal chat involving discussions on Houthi strikes.
