Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell recently shared a humorous incident from the company’s early years, recounting a memorable prank pulled by his engineers 35 years ago. Dell revealed on social media that in the middle of the night, a group of his engineers decided to place a giant, 25-foot gorilla on top of the company's headquarters.

“35 years ago, in the middle of the night, a bunch of our engineers decided to put a giant 25-foot gorilla on the top of our HQ ,” he said

The post elicited a reaction from his followers as well as Tesla CEO Elon Musk , who responded with a laughing emoji, indicating his amusement at the tale.

In one of the replies, a follower asked, “What happened to them? all got fired? or Godzilla fired at them.” Dell replied, “Promoted them 🤠”.

Musk says 'Thanks, Michael!'
This is not the first time both have chatted on X. Earlier this year, the Dell founder praised Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI and its chatbot model, Grok 3 , calling it “awesome” and commended its “unmatched” rate of improvement. He also shared a screenshot showing the Grok app leading the Top Charts in the App Store in the US.

“Grok 3 is awesome and the rate of improvement is unmatched. Congratulations @xai 🦾🏆” Dell wrote in his X post.

Responding to Dell’s post, Musk wrote: “Thanks, Michael!”

Musk also thanked Dell for his support of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

“Very few in the bureaucracy actually work the weekend, so it’s like the opposing team just leaves the field for 2 days! Working the weekend is a superpower,” Musk said.

Supporting him, Dell replied, “We need DOGE!”

This caught Musk’s attention, and he responded, “Yay! Thanks for your support, Michael. This will be great for the American people.”
