Apple has announced that iOS 18.1 update will be rolled out next week. The upcoming version is expected to bring the first set of Apple Intelligence features to iPhones and iPads. The update is also likely to include a major firmware update for AirPods Pro 2 , enabling new hearing health features. With iOS 18.1, Apple may introduce several AI-powered enhancements, including Writing Tools, notification summaries, and a Clean Up feature for the Photos app. Meanwhile, the AirPods Pro 2 firmware update is expected to add hearing health capabilities, although the specifics of these features have not yet been detailed.

Apple iOS 18.1 release: Expected launch date and features

While Apple has not confirmed an exact release date, however, Bloomberg previously reported that the update is expected on October 28. This update is expected to mark a significant step in Apple's integration of AI across its devices and services.

Alongside Apple Intelligence and hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2, iOS 18.1 will introduce a host of other enhancements when it launches next week. These include updates to the Control Center, improved iPhone mirroring capabilities, and new call recording and transcription features.

Notably, iOS 18.1 will also open up the iPhone's NFC chip to third-party developers for the first time. This may enable new apps and integrations for contactless technology.

iOS 18.1 is also likely to bring a refreshed design for Siri with a glowing light indicator and the ability to switch between text and voice input. The improved Siri is expected to have a better understanding of Apple products, handling of stumbles and changes in requests, and maintain context between multiple interactions. However, major Siri upgrades are still expected later this year and next.

The update is also said to introduce a new Camera Control option exclusively for iPhone 16 users. This upgrade will allow users to quickly switch to the selfie camera with a few taps within the Camera app.
