The ranking points from Thursday’s victory have significantly boosted Ankita’s chances of qualifying for the 3000m steeplechase at next month’s World Championships in Tokyo via the world ranking quota.

“Yes, under the rules, the performance in the 2000m steeplechase will be counted for world ranking purposes in the 3000m steeplechase for the World Championships in Tokyo. It is an existing rule,” Indian athletics head coach Radhakrishnan Nair told PTI.

The Grand Slam Jerusalem is a World Athletics Continental Tour silver-level (Category B) event. Israel’s Adva Cohen finished second in 6:15.20, while Denmark’s Juliane Hvid claimed bronze in 6:17.80.

Ankita has been in strong form this season. She won silver in the 3000m steeplechase at last month’s World University Games with a personal best of 9:31.99. She also represented India in the women’s 5000m at the 2024 Olympics and won bronze in the same event at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok.

Earlier this year, she completed a double at the Uttarakhand National Games, securing gold in both the women’s 5000m and 3000m steeplechase.
