Denzel Washington is going to share the screen with Pedro Pascal and Paul Mescal in the much-awaited 'Gladiator II'. In anticipation of the film's release, Washington finally broke his silence on his role as Macrinus and precisely how it stands within the plot of the movie.

In the interview, it was brought to light that Washington's character in the film, Macrinus, is supposed to return to Rome. The actor was reprising his role from the original film where he was seen starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

Discussing his character's journey, he said,“He’s trying to use everybody. He’d use his mother; he’d use his own children; he’s already used up his soul, so he didn’t have any left. He’s in bed with the devil.”

He also remembers his experience with the shoot saying, “When you would walk around, you were in Rome, and it seemed like 10,000 extras and horses. It was make-believe, it was play, it was fun; just put the gear on, put the dress on and go. That's the way I look at it. I’m putting this dress on, these rings and I’m going crazy.”

Paul Mescal added his thoughts on his character as Lucius in the film. For the film, Mescal had imagined Lucius differently initially, but with every shot passing, he began to view him as “I always saw him like a dog, like somebody who would just scrape his way to survival.”

The project carries a very special significance for Mescal. The sequel, coming 24 years after Ridley Scott's film from 2000 'Gladiator', did carry an enormous responsibility in continuing the high standard of the original film; it was something he was pressured with. According to Mescal, "I think it's being made by the only man capable of doing it, Ridley Scott, as a friend and long-time admirer, I believe this is one of his finest works.". I'm pretty proud of his work, my work, and the efforts of the whole team. No one can take that away from us."
'Gladiator II' is set for release on November 15.
