Kanpur: The extension of Kanpur Metro passenger services from Moti Jheel to Kanpur Central under Kanpur Metro Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24.
Ahead of the PM's visit to the city, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the newly constructed Nayaganj underground metro station on Sunday to review the preparations.
Managing director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), Sushil Kumar, briefed the CM on the progress and key aspects of the Metro Rail project. Following the inspection, CM Yogi undertook a trial journey on the metro train from Nayaganj to Rawatpur station.
Several dignitaries including Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, MPs Devendra Singh Bhole and Ramesh Awasthi, MSME minister Rakesh Sachan, MLAs Surendra Maithani, Mahesh Trivedi, and Neelima Katiyar, MLC Manvendra Singh, former MLA Raghunandan Bhadoriya, Mayor Pramila Pandey and other distinguished guests accompanied him on the occasion.
CM arrived at Nayaganj station around 2:45pm and after inspecting the station facilities, he travelled by Metro to Rawatpur. During this time, the MD, UPMRC provided updates on the progress of both Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) and Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8). He informed Yogi that with the extension to Kanpur Central, a total of 14 metro stations will soon be operational. He also highlighted the UPMRC's strong performance on the ‘Key Performance Indicators' (KPI) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs' I-Metro benchmarking initiative.
The CM was also briefed about the UPMRC's green energy initiatives, including the installation of 4 MW solar power plants across metro projects and continuous efforts to enhance passenger facilities.
Key Features of Kanpur Metro Trains: As part of the inspection, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath travelled on the metro from Nayaganj to Rawatpur, reviewing preparations for the upcoming extension of services. Soon, these modern trains will transport passengers across the city from IIT to Kanpur Central.
