Jaipur/Ajmer: Rajasthan police have launched an intensive crackdown on social media misuse, arresting five individuals across multiple districts for spreading misinformation and sharing sensitive military information amid heightened India-Pakistan border tensions.
In a series of arrests over the past 24 hours, authorities have acted against individuals in Churu, Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh and Ajmer districts for posting unverified content and sensitive information that could compromise national security.
In Hanumangarh, a man identified as Rajkumar was arrested for creating panic by posting a false video on Facebook claiming a missile-like object had fallen in a field. The post, which included specific location details, led to widespread concern in the area.
Two youths were apprehended in Sriganganagar's Gharsana area for allegedly sharing information about Army movements on social media. According to police station in-charge Mahavir Prasad Bishnoi, the cyber desk team continues to monitor social media platforms closely due to the sensitive border situation.
In Churu, police arrested 41-year-old Kishan Meghwal for posting anti-national content on Facebook, while in Ajmer, 51-year-old Rajunath was taken into custody for falsely claiming a "huge explosion in Jaipur" on social media.
Ajmer SP Vandita Rana said, "We immediately investigated the false explosion claim and traced it to Rajunath, a resident of Raas Beawar but currently working as a tailor in Ganhera of Pushkar. The misleading post has since been removed."
The police have issued stern warnings against sharing provocative posts, anti-national material, or military-related information.
Authorities emphasised that strict legal action would be taken against violations, with comprehensive surveillance being maintained across all social media platforms.
