Tamil Nadu School Holiday Declared For November 1, Schools to Remain Open on November 9

The Tamil Nadu Government has declared November 1 as a public holiday. The day following Diwali will be observed as a state holiday; therefore, all schools, colleges, and government offices will be closed. The state government took this decision to let people celebrate Diwali and come back to the state. The government hopes this additional holiday will provide them with more time to return home without being anxious about returning to work the very next day.To balance out this holiday, the next Saturday, i.e., November 9, will be observed as a normal working day. All schools, colleges, coachings, and offices, including banks, will remain open on November 9. This was officially announced through a government release on October 19, 2024. The release reads, "The government has declared 9 November as a working day to make up for the holiday."It comes after the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organizations and Government Employees’ Organizations (JACTTO-GEO) requested the Chief Minister to declare November 1 as a holiday. The association had pointed out that many people typically travel to their native places to celebrate Diwali. It highlighted that they may face difficulties returning to work on the day after Diwali. Tamil Nadu schools, colleges are also closed on October 31, 2024 for Diwali celebrations.

Tamil Nadu Schools Closed Due to Rains?Several Southern states are witnessing incessant rains. Owing to the same, state government directed respective district officials to announce school holiday on October 16. Due to heavy rains, the schools were closed for a few days in Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts. A yellow alert was issued in several parts of the state for Friday, October 18. As per IMD update, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal till October 21. However, as of now, there is no update on schools being closed tomorrow. Students are advised to be in touch with their respective schools for latest and accurate update.
