baristas have long been thought to intentionally misspell customer names. When cricketer Kevin Pietersen visited one of the coffeehouse chain’s outlets in Mumbai, his order surely didn’t help their case. The former England all-rounder was hanging out at the Colaba Starbucks with his family, on Saturday, when he received his order in a cup with the name “Cabin” written on it

Pietersen, however, was in on the joke. Sharing pictures from his visit on , he wrote, “We found coffee this morning in Mumbai. Cabin & family!”The post caused disbelief on social media, with his fans struggling to understand how he seemingly went unrecognised in India.“Cabin Pietersen. How do they not know who you are in India mate?,” asked one.Another commented,” KP, there are many outlets in Mumbai which are serving better coffee than Starbucks, do visit those.People also shared similar experiences of Starbucks getting their names wrong.“I think you've been around enough to not need a tour guide in Mumbai. Tbf [To be fair] they've never got my order right either at Starbucks,” wrote an X user.Although it’s widely believed that Starbucks misspells names as a marketing technique, the brand has maintained a contrarian position."We have never asked or directed any of our partners to misspell names of our customers for any reason," a spokesperson for Starbucks told ."Writing names on cups is a fun tradition born out of the relationship and interaction between our employees and customers. Our [baristas] aim to do their best when it comes to spelling the names of our customers, though at times it can be tricky."Pietersen is on a trip to India with his wife, Jessica Taylor, and children, Dylan and Rosie, all of whose coffee cups had correctly-spelt names. While in Mumbai, he stopped by at Wankhede Stadium to revisit his famous 186-run knock from the second Test of England's 2012 tour of India. The cricket ground is not far from hotel, where the Pietersens stayed over the weekend.
