The New Zealand cricket team scripted history on Sunday (October 20) after registering a historic eight-wicket victory over India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This was the first time the Black Caps won a Test match on Indian soil since 1987 and only the third time in history. While the stage for the incredible win was set by the New Zealand pace attack as India were bowled out for just 46 in the first innings in what is the lowest total by any Indian team in Test cricket history at home. However, Rachin Ravindra emerged as the hero for the Tom Latham-led side. In the first innings, Rachin scored a sensational century which helped New Zealand post a huge score of 402 runs on the baord and take a 356-run lead. In the second innings while the visitors were chasing 107 runs, Rachin remained unbeaten for 39 on crease.

The Chennai Super Kings Factor Before joining the national team, Rachin travelled to Chennai and trained at the Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) academy in September to prepare for their hectic Test season which had them scheduled to play six matches in the subcontinent. The Black Caps started the season with a one-off Test against Afghanistan in Noida which was washed out without a single ball bowled. Later, they travelled to Sri Lanka for two Test matches and lost both. Post New Zealand's historic win in Bengaluru, Rachin credited his time in the CSK Academy for his ability to succeed in Indian conditions.

“When you have six subcontinent Tests coming up, you do extra work - indoors, put some mats down, or head out and do some training. Luckily, it all worked out today. Was trying to get a feel of different pitches, red- and black soil while preparing in Chennai, and figure out what positions I can get in and guards I can take to different bowlers. It was a great set-up there, got an open wicket, different wickets, nets every day, net bowlers every day, invaluable experience. Grateful for those guys putting it on. I try to be in good positions to be able to score, open up areas,” said Rachin in the post-match presentation. Will CSK Retain Rachin Ravindra? CSK purchased Rachin for a steal deal of Rs. 1.8 crore in the 2024 IPL auction, but his future with the franchise is uncertain ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. It remains to be seen if he is retained by the five-time champions or whether they use the Right to Match (RTM) card on him.
