An expert has revealed a surprising kitchen item that can remove stains from clothes almost instantly. It can be frustrating trying to get certain stains out of clothes but a simple tip can help tackle the problem.
Oily stains, which might occur from accidental spills or greasy marks from cooking, are particularly stubborn. They can sometimes lead to a permanent mark that looks dull or shiny. Fortunately, Plumbworld, bathroom and kitchen expert, has revealed an item which allows the stain to be brushed or washed away easily.
Plumbworld said: "Oily stains are common, but the good news is that a simple, food-safe product like cornstarch can often remove them if treated promptly. It's affordable, non-toxic, and very easy to use at home."
Unlike bleach or other detergents, cornstarch, which typically costs around a couple of pounds for a whole bag, does not change the colour of clothing. It helps to absorb excess oil and reduce the spread quickly.
Plumbworld added: "The sooner you treat the stain, the higher the chance of complete removal. Cornstarch acts quickly by absorbing the excess oil before it spreads further."
After covering a layer of cornstarch over the stain, experts recommend letting it sit for between 15 and 20 minutes. You should then carefully brush off the pwder with a brush or cloth before washing your item of clothing as usual.
The method is both effective and gentle. According to Plumbworld, it is ideal for fabrics including cotton, polyester and blends.
The expert also advises people to keep cornstarch handy in their kitchen so it is easily accessible for quick access. However, people are urged not to rub their stains as this can spread the oil further into the fabric.
Plumbworld concluded: "Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the most effective. Cornstarch is a low-cost, easy, and safe way to tackle oily stains before they become permanent. For families, home cooks, or anyone prone to grease spills, this pantry staple is a must-have for maintaining spotless clothes."
