Spain is preparing for extreme temperatures, with Malaga expectated to experience searing winds. A moderate high temperature warning has been issued across the country with the levels of heat predicted to reach 42°C. Malaga, the province in the Andalucía region of Spain has received warnings as extremely powerful winds are expected to hit the area from Friday.
This is due to hot land based 'terral' winds that come from the north west and build heat as they travel south. It is thought that this weather could also be an Amber level warning come Friday, reports Sur.
Juan de Dios del Pino is the spokesperson for Aemet, Spain's state meteorological agency, in the Andalucía region.
In his SUR weather blog, he said: "The worst could come on Friday, when a trough will come in and the wind will change to westerly. That is to say, we will probably have the terral wind in the usual areas of the province of Malaga. On this occasion and depending on the time it enters, we could reach the first 40C of summer in Malaga."
He believes the weather may linger until Monday, with evening temperatures expected to reach between 24°C and 26°C, which equates to tropical temperatures.
The region of Spain, specifically the Costa del Sol, is known as the sunshine coast but does not often experience such high heats, with these temperatures of about 40°C being felt for the first time this summer.
However, heat has already threated inland parts of the Malaga province with a yellow warning being issued by Aemet due to high temperatures in Antequera on Tuesday, where temperatures were expected to reach 39°C. The warning will be activated again on Thursday for similar reasons. Cordoba, Granada, Jaen and Seville also received amber warnings due to extreme heat.
Malaga is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Brits year on year with more than one million people flying out there for a break.
Holidaygoers are urged to be safe during this heatwave and should take precaution when going outside.
