Luxury cruise ship horror as man arrested after 60-year-old 'killed in fight'

A 57-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 60-year-old man died following an altercation aboard a luxury cruise ship. The incident took place at about 8.30pm on Saturday shortly after MSC Virtuosa set sail from Southampton.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are understood to have detained the suspect, who is from Exeter, when the vessel returned to port in Southampton on Monday morning. Officers have described the death as an "isolated incident" and confirmed that the victim's next of kin have been informed. The suspect remains in custody as detectives continue their investigation. The ship is understood to have returned to dock.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Gillooly, the Senior Investigating Officer, said: "We want to reassure you that this appears to be an isolated incident on-board, and we want to thank the crew for their cooperation and assistance with our enquiries."
