Kevin De Bruyne invites Man City talks as star in limbo ahead of summer

Kevin De Bruyne has confessed that he is still unsure if he'll be playing for Man City at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, with no new contract on the table as his deal approaches its end this June.

The Belgian midfielder, who has shone for a decade at the Etihad, is in limbo, awaiting word from manager Pep Guardiola regarding his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming tournament in the United States, after he was told he was not part of the club's fans for next season and beyond.

With speculation whirling over his next move, De Bruyne hinted that participation in America with City might be off the cards if it's deemed too risky by his potential new team. His tenure with the club could end with their match against Fulham unless clarity around his role at the Club World Cup emerges.

Asked about his participation at the Club World Cup, De Bruyne remarked: "I don't know. For me, it will depend on whatever happens in the future, you know, depending on what team I'll go to and what competition I'll play in.

"Also, if the new team doesn't want me to play and doesn't want to risk whatever happens. I haven't really spoken to City about it, so I don't know. If they want to have a conversation, we can. But I'm not sure about this."

In a display of appreciation, City supporters are raising £5,000 for a tifo banner to honour De Bruyne's contribution, aiming to unveil it at the FA Cup Final versus Crystal Palace on May 17.

Despite the affection from fans, the revelation of City's plans to move forward without him stunned the 33-year-old, who has since responded with exemplary performances on the pitch.

Guardiola has confirmed that there will be no reversal of the decision, even after De Bruyne scored a crucial winning goal for City against Wolves on Friday night. This victory has enhanced their chances of securing a top-five finish and qualifying for the Champions League.

The former Chelsea and Wolfsburg playmaker is adored by both his teammates and fans.

Belgian winger Jeremy Doku expressed his belief that De Bruyne still possesses the ability to perform at the highest level, following his assist in setting up the midfielder's winning goal at the Etihad.

Doku stated: "Obviously it's very sad that Kevin is leaving because I do think he still has the qualities to play here - and he's shown it again.

"Kevin is one of the biggest legends in the history of this club. To see a player of his calibre leave is sad and I can understand the fans being sad. I just enjoy every moment I play with him and would say the supporters have to do the same.

"It's a pity he's going to leave us but I still play with him in the national team so I can still get to enjoy that. I have only been for two seasons but I have seen what kind of impact he's had even before I came."
