managed a laugh on Saturday's episode of the Jonathan Ross show as he discussed the terrifying 2022 car crash that had nearly killed him. The cricket champ turned world-class coach had been discussing his new documentary, Flintoff, which comes to next week - and he joked that he didn't want to give away a spoiler before it hit screens.

"I don't want to spoil it - I had a crash, I survived," he joked in deadpan style, as Ross added that their conversation was definitely not "a plot spoiler". However, viewers will be able to see scenes of the actual crash, the aftermath of which left him struggling to leave the house at all for half a year. "I had to have about five or six goes at leaving the room. Had to have a chat with myself in the mirror," he admitted as the mood turned serious again.

"For such a long time, I'd not shown myself without a face mask to anyone - it was like starting again."

It turned out to be cricket which lifted Freddie out of his depression, as he had a team of nine promising young cricketers, many from deprived backgrounds, waiting for him to take them to India so they could build a team.

The filming of the adventure for last year's documentary release, Freddie Flintoff's Field of Dreams, had to be halted when news came in of the life-changing crash.

However, he eventually broke through his anxiety, managed to heal from the physical trauma of the crash, and got back out there.

Freddie also proudly announced last September that he was to become the new head coach of the England Lions cricket team.

Fans were delighted to see him summon up the strength to crack a smile about what had been such a brutal moment in his career, signalling that he was starting to move on.

Meanwhile, he also joked about how

Sitting on Jonathan Ross' sofa alongside the likes of Aussie actress Rebel Wilson and The White Lotus star Jason Isaacs, he joked that he'd been like "the Robin Hood of Preston".

His new documentary, Flintoff, which will show his life-altering crash for the first time, will air on Disney+ on April 25.
