Best country for outdoor activities - and it's far closer than you think

Intrepid travellers are always on the hunt for destinations that offer far more than just idling by the pool.

has revealed the number one country when it comes to the best outdoor adventures.

Factors used to compile this list included regions with the best canoe and kayak trails, walking tours, and hiking trails.

And it's good news for Britons as the UK takes the top spot with an outdoor destination score of 8.98.

From the rolling hills of to the rugged coastlines of Kent, the UK has been named as the number one country for outdoor enthusiasts with a treasure trove of beauty and activities all on its doorstep.

"The UK scores highly across all categories, ranking in the top five for three categories: walking tours, hiking trails and canoe and kayak trails," said Titan Travel.

The experts added: "The UK boasts incredible scenery, several national parks and plentiful campsites, making it a wonderful place to adventure in, no matter what you want to do."

Notable regions in the UK high on the adventure activities list include Devon, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire in Wales, Suffolk, The Highlands, Kent, Northumberland, and the Island of Jura.

"Spain ranked in fourth and sixth place for walking tours and hiking trails, respectively. Spain also has more walking tours than our top three destinations for outdoor holidays," noted Titan Travel.

"France boasts beautiful lakes and rivers, such as the Ardeche River, which is great for paddleboarding or canoeing, with almost 60 trails for these sports," said the experts.
