BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty says 'I'll have to get out of this' after awkward mix up

Naga Munchetty was left biting her nails as she awkwardly confessed to viewers she'd been left thinking "I'll have to get out this one" after mistakenly thinking her co-star would take a different course of action when hosting.

Things took a embarrassing turn for Naga on Saturday's episode (Aug 9) as she and co-host Charlie Stayt had been readying to hand over the presenting baton to meteorologist Simon King to deliver on the weather for the week ahead.

Up until this point in the show, Simon had been delivering the news that further sunshine would lay ahead in the days to come with a heatwave very much scheduled to hit the UK - news welcomed by many across Britain.

Unbeknown to Naga, Simon had changed up his routine from earlier in the show and decided to start his weather report with grey skies and rain. As the BBC 5 Live star turned around to face him, mid sentence she realised it wasn't the news she had been talking about on-air.

The two hosts had been discussing UK beaches and the association with long pleasure piers in this country when Naga had hoped the sunny weather would tie in with their chatter.

She said: "I think Simon will tell us..." realising her mistake, Naga added: "It doesn't quite look like it there."

Attempting to fill the awkward void Simon jested: "I always try to link what you are going to say with the weather," airing: "It hasn't worked."

Admitting it was an error on her part, Naga said: "I turned around thinking, yes, there'll be a visual of sunshine or something and then 'Ahh I'll have to get out of this one'."

Simon told her: "I'd been starting with the sunshine all morning but thought I'd focus now on the rain because we've had quite a bit across Scotland and Northern Ireland," as Naga told him: "Thank you."

It wasn't the only on-air mishap this week for Naga and Charlie, with a BBC spokesperson stepping in to offer up apologies after masses of fans noticed an issue with Thursday (August 7) broadcast.

Naga and Charlie had been delving into the latest headlines when an unexpected technical hiccup occurred, causing the programme to be substituted with another for some viewers.

Online fans reported the disturbance, explaining that a sudden schedule shake up took place featuring a preacher before swiftly returning to the two hosts in the studio.

Fortunately it wasn't a nationwide issue and the glitch only seemed to impact certain areas. Fans who had experienced technical difficulty flocked to social media to air their dismay.

One viewer took to X, asking: "Anyone else got tbnuk just taken over #bbcbreakfast?" Another fan, responded: "Yes - and then a switch back after 5 mins without any explanation!"

Others confirmed the same issue adding: "Yes, I was so confused," and, "Its just happened again & also on iPlayer, but still #BBCBreakfast on BBCNews! I have Virgin - it may be coming through their feed?"

While a further fan penned: "I had a frozen screen but it was flashing green and orange, no sound, thought my TV had broken."

Addressing the issue, a BBC spokesperson said: "Due to a technical issue, viewers in the Midlands experienced a short interruption to BBC Breakfast this morning. We apologise for this."
