Dallas/New Delhi: In a shocking incident, an Indian national was beheaded by his junior colleague at a motel in Dallas, USA, on Wednesday morning. The Indian consulate in Houston has taken up the matter with local authorities.
According to reports, 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah (Chandra Mouli Bob Nagamallaiah), originally from Karnataka, was the manager of the Downtown Suites Motel in Dallas. The dispute was over a washing machine. Nagamallaiah was from Karnataka.
Nagamallaiah was speaking to Yordanis Cobos-Martinez when trouble broke out. The Indian man apparently asked someone else to translate his instructions regarding the washing machine to Martinez, instead of speaking to him directly. This seems to have infuriated the latter.
Martinez is said to have brought out a sharp weapon and attacked Nagamallaiah, beheading him in the presence of his wife and son. A video has surfaced of Martinez walking with the victim’s severed head. He was arrested and charged with murder.
“We condole the tragic death of Mr Chandra Nagamallaiah, an Indian National, killed brutally at his workplace in Dallas, Tx. We are in touch with the family and offering all possible assistance. The accused is in the custody of Dallas Police. We are following up on the matter closely,” the Consulate General of India in Houston has said.
The incident comes close on the heels of the gunning down of a Haryana youth by a man in Los Angeles in California. The Indian, who worked as a security guard in a shop, was shot dead when he asked the local not to urinate in public.
