Puri: A special train service between Daspalla and Puri was flagged off on Monday.
The special train, launched on the joyous occasion of Diwali, came as a welcome boost for commuters in the region.
The train will cover the distance of about 150 km between Daspalla, in Nayagarh district, and Puri in 3.5 hours.
The special train departed from Daspalla station at 11.30 am and reached Puri station at 3 pm. The return journey started from Puri at 4 pm and was scheduled to arrive at Daspalla at 7.30 pm.
Locals were happy with the new service as it offers a much sought-after direct rail link between the interior region of Daspalla and coastal town of Puri, the home of Lord Jagannath.
The departure of train No. 68444 Daspalla-Bhadrak MEMU was rescheduled from 4.15 pm from Daspalla, to 8.30 pm.
