An 18-year-old girl took some hormonal pills to stop her periods and due to this she suffered from deep pain thrombosis. When the doctor asked to admit her, her father refused. But before morning, the girl died at midnight.
Vascular surgeon Dr Vivekanand spoke about this incident in his rebooting the Brain podcast. In the August 14 episode, he was talking with neurosurgeon Dr Sharan Srinivasan about the silent threat of deep vein thrombosis. In this episode, Dr Vivekanand mentioned that girl.
Took medicine because of the puja at home
The doctor said that an 18-year-old girl came to his clinic with her friends. She had pain and swelling in her legs and thighs. She was also feeling very uneasy. When the doctor asked her when it started, she said that due to a puja at home, she had taken some hormonal pills to stop her periods.
The doctor said that when we got her scan done, it was found that she was suffering from deep-vein thrombosis, and the clot was near her navel. The doctor spoke to her father and asked him to admit the girl. But her father refused, saying that her mother would bring her tomorrow.
Dr Vivekanand further said that at around 2 o'clock in the night, I got a call that a girl had been admitted to the emergency ward, who was unable to breathe. The doctor said that it was too late, and a little life was lost. Let us tell you that deep vein thrombosis is a medical condition where a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the legs.
