Elon Musk’s AI company xAI has launched a provocative new feature called “Spicy Mode” within its Grok Imagine tool, sparking widespread debate and concerns over content moderation and misuse. This feature is available exclusively to Premium Plus and SuperGrok subscribers on the iOS app of X (formerly Twitter) for a monthly fee of around Rs 700.
Spicy Mode enables users to create short, up to 15-second videos with adult-themed visuals and natural audio simply by typing text prompts. While the company has implemented some restrictions, the tool can still generate semi-nude and risqué content, sometimes bypassing the filters designed to moderate explicit material. The generated videos often show a stylized look, with faces sometimes resembling cartoons due to the “Uncanny Valley” effect.
The feature came to light after an xAI employee posted on X about its ability to generate nudity, though the post was later deleted. Since then, social media has been abuzz with discussions about the potential for the tool’s misuse in creating explicit content, including concerns about deepfakes and non-consensual sexual imagery.
Despite the controversies, Elon Musk and his team have positioned Grok as an “unfiltered” alternative to other AI tools, pushing the boundaries of generative AI creativity. Spicy Mode continues this trend, allowing more freedom in content creation but also raising important questions about ethical use, safety, and regulation in AI-generated adult content.
In summary, Grok Imagine’s Spicy Mode introduces a bold but contentious new capability in AI-generated imagery and video, blending advanced technology with complex debates around digital safety, consent, and moderation standards.
