A boy has been hit by a tram in a city suburb and suffered "potentially life-threatening injuries", according to police.
Police, paramedics and fire crews are at Brownley Road in Wythenshawe, near to the Crossacres tram stop this evening following the accident. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that there had been a "serious incident" where a boy was hit by a tram and rushed to hospital."
The force also said that the Metrolink service to Manchester Airport has been suspended while work by the emergency services is carried out.

"Emergency services are currently responding to reports of a serious incident on the tram network at Crossacres tram stop in Wythenshawe," said a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.
"A boy was struck by a tram and has been taken to hospital with life-changing and potentially life-threatening injuries. Trams to Manchester Airport have been suspended whilst emergency service personnel conduct their enquiries."
An image from the scene showed an air ambulance in attendance following the accident. Multiple fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles were also called to the incident at Crossacres today.
Witnesses reported seeing a young boy being treated by paramedics at the scene. Nearby road closures are in place on Brownley Road, Crossacres Road and Poundswick Lane while the Crossacres stop remains taped off with a Metrolink tram seen stationary within the sectioned off area.
The North West Ambulance Service confirmed a patient has been seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a tram this afternoon. The 999 call was received at around 3.37pm and the patient, understood to have been a young boy, was rushed to hospital from the scene, reported the Manchester Evening News.
Multiple resources were sent to the scene, including advanced clinicians, an air ambulance and operational commander. A large scene remains in place this evening with police and fire crews also in attendance.
A spokesperson for Transport for Greater Manchester said: "Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident involving a young person at the Crossacres tram stop on the Airport line.
“We are supporting Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service in their response. Tram services between Roundthorn and the Airport are suspended, with services likely to be disrupted for several hours.
“Road closures are also in place around the stop, at the junction of Crossacres Road, Poundswick Lane and Brownley Road, with bus services being diverted. Please check the TfGM website and social media channels for the latest information and travel advice.”
