Curved lawn edges next to blooming flower beds can utterly transform a garden, yet so many enthusiasts are clueless about how to begin. Curved borders are often more desirable than straight ones, providing what's been dubbed as a "natural but elegant" look and effectively splitting up boxy gardens, according to the
Plus, crafting a crisp lawn edge that drops cleanly to the border is key for keeping mulching material where it's needed, the RHS points out. Luckily, outdoor ace Bo Petterson has revealed the "easiest" technique to give your green space a makeover, saving you from hours of graft.

On , under @dadadvicefrombo, the garden whizz demonstrates his way of creating perfectly curved edges using nothing more than an ordinary rubber hose pipe.
He confessed: "I have used PVC pipes in the past. You just put a couple of spikes down to hold it in place. But I really prefer to use just a rubber hose because you can lay it out along any bend that you want and you can go back and adjust if you need to."
The initial step is to gauge an uniform distance between the grass and flower beds, laying down the hose pipe as your guide. Once your curve is shaped up, Bo recommends grabbing a flathead shovel or a power edger to strip away any turf or sod ahead of the hose line.
He explained: "Then just go back through and pull out all the loose stuff. And remember you can go back through and make adjustments if you need to as you work at it, it's not that big of a deal. This trick makes a nice, clean edge."
If you're lacking a garden hose, no worries – rope or string can step in as substitutes. Curvy lines can add a distinctive touch to the division between your lawn and its borders, yet some green-fingered enthusiasts prefer straight edges for their sharp, formal look.
The RHS has shared that any surplus grass can be chucked into your compost heap, or alternatively, piled up separately to decompose into soil.
Followers were quick to express their amazement at the nifty tip in the comments section, with one enthusiast exclaiming: "I have a 100ft rock driveway that I've been trying to edge. The hose will work perfectly. Thank you!".
Another wrote: "Thank you, because I'm absolutely clueless and trying to watch videos." Meanwhile, a third chimed in: "I've never seen a lawn edge that way but after this video I think I want to edge my lawn."
And a fourth suggested: "Lay out the hose and trace it with a power washer to set your edge."
For those aiming to simplify edging further and maintain the shape long-term, the RHS also suggests considering the installation of wooden or metal borders.
