New York City is set to witness a vibrant cultural showcase this September as Nita Ambani, founder of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), brings a three-day celebration of Indian art and heritage to Lincoln Center.
Scheduled from September 12 to 14, the NMACC Weekend promises an immersive experience with classical and contemporary performances, couture fashion, handloom crafts, and traditional cuisine. The event aims to position Indian arts “at the front and center of the world’s creative imagination,” Ambani said.
Kicking off with an exclusive welcome gala titled Grand Swagat, the evening will feature a fashion show by designer Manish Malhotra and a specially curated menu by Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna. A highlight of the weekend is the Broadway-style musical The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation, originally staged for the NMACC’s grand opening in Mumbai, and now adapted for five performances at Lincoln Center.
Other attractions include concerts by Bollywood favorites Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal, yoga sessions with Eddie Stern, a cricket panel, and dance workshops by choreographer Shiamak Davar. The adjacent Damrosch Park will be transformed into a bustling Indian-style bazaar featuring live demonstrations by artisans and a Swadesh pop-up showcasing Indian textiles and handicrafts.
“I’m really looking forward to bringing a slice of India and India’s 5,000 years of storytelling,” said Ambani, who also revealed she will perform on opening night—an echo of her early days dancing in a temple when stages were out of reach. Tickets for the NMACC Weekend go on sale in late June.
