The scene inside the house was horrifying. Om Prakash's body was lying in the drawing room on the ground floor. Blood had spread on the floor.

It was a Sunday evening at 14th Cross Road in HSR Layout, a posh area of Bengaluru. The sun had set, and there was a little bustle on the streets. But there was silence in Om Prakash's three-storey luxurious bungalow. A silence that was suppressing the screams of blood. 68-year-old retired DGP Om Prakash, who once headed the Karnataka Police, was now lying in a pool of blood in his own drawing room. There were a dozen knife wounds on his stomach and chest, and a kitchen knife was lying nearby soaked in blood. This scene told the story of a cruel conspiracy.
One phone call and a shocking revelationAt around 4:30 pm, a call came to the Bengaluru police control room. The incident was reported. A Hoysala police vehicle immediately rushed to 14th Cross. But when the police reached their house, the door was locked. Pallavi and her daughter Krithi were inside, but were not ready to open the door. The police had to break the door.

The scene inside the house was horrifying. Om Prakash's body was lying in the drawing room on the ground floor. A big puddle of blood had spread on the floor. On the dining table nearby, a plate of food was getting cold, as if a story was left incomplete. The police's eyes were fixed on Pallavi and Krithi, who were locked in a room. Both were taken into custody, and an investigation began that shook the whole of Karnataka.
- Former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was murdered in Bengaluru.
- The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was found dead soaked in blood.
- Several knife wounds were found on the stomach and chest.
- Pallavi called the police and informed them about the murder.
- Before the murder, Pallavi told her friend "I have killed the demon".
- Property dispute is being considered a possible motive for the murder.
- Om Prakash, a 1981 batch IPS, was a native of Champaran, Bihar.
Om Prakash, a 1981 batch IPS officer, belonged to Champaran in Bihar. Om Prakash, who holds an MSc degree in Geology, started his career as Additional Superintendent of Police in Ballari district. He was posted as Superintendent of Police in districts like Shimoga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. He left his mark as DIG in Lokayukta, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and Fire Services. He became the DGP of Karnataka in 2015 and retired in 2017. He played an important role in the investigation of the 2013 BJP headquarters bomb blast in Bangalore and the 2014 Church Street blast.
But his life after retirement was not as peaceful as it appeared from the outside. According to sources, Om Prakash had mentioned to his close friends that his life was in danger. From whom? This question had now become the center of investigation.
What has come to light so far in the police investigation? In the initial police investigation, Pallavi emerged as the prime suspect. Sources said that after the murder, Pallavi called the wife of another retired IPS officer and made a shocking statement: "I killed that monster." This "monster" was none other than her husband Om Prakash. Pallavi then informed the police by calling 112. But when the police reached their house, Pallavi and Kriti refused to open the door. The police found this behaviour suspicious.
- Police recovered a knife and a bottle of chilli powder from the spot.
- Questions have been raised on Pallavi's mental condition, although the police is still investigating it.
- Police have found no signs of forced entry into the home.
Interrogation of Pallavi revealed that she was suffering from mental health issues. Some sources claimed that she had a condition similar to schizophrenia, and was regularly treated at mental health centres. The police also found out that Pallavi had staged a sit-in outside the HSR Layout police station a few months ago because her complaint was not registered. But what was her complaint? It remained a mystery.
Kriti, who was in the house at the time of the incident, was the second suspect in the eyes of the police. Pallavi claimed that Kriti was locked in a separate room when the murder took place. But the police were investigating the veracity of this statement. Did Kriti support her mother? Or was she just a witness? To find answers to these questions, the police interrogated both of them for about 12 hours.
Property dispute or something else?
A key clue that has emerged in the police investigation is the property dispute. According to sources, Om Prakash wanted to transfer all his property to his son Karthik. Pallavi was upset with this decision. Some reports claimed that before the murder, there was a heated argument between Om Prakash and Pallavi on this issue. Was this dispute so deep that Pallavi killed her husband?
But the police were considering all possibilities. Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikas Kumar Vikas said, "We have found a sharp weapon, which may have been used to commit the murder. More clarity will emerge after the postmortem report." The police also revealed that no signs of forced intrusion were found in the house, raising suspicion that the crime took place inside the house.
The incident: A story of blood and silencePolice recovered two knives and a bottle believed to have contained chilli powder from the scene. "It appears that the attacker first threw chilli powder on Om Prakash's face, rendering him helpless. Then he was stabbed multiple times," a scene of crime officer said. Om Prakash had around 12 wounds on his neck and abdomen, including one deep wound on his neck. The brutality pointed to a deep rage.
The atmosphere inside the house was also mysterious. The food on the dining table was intact, as if a normal day had suddenly turned into a disaster. Pallavi's calm posture, as she sat on a chair next to her dead husband, puzzled the police. Was it mental instability, or part of a well-planned crime?
Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwar expressed grief over the incident and said, "This is a sad incident. Initial investigation suspects Pallavi, but we will bring out the whole truth." This murder also raised questions on the law and order situation in Karnataka. Many people wrote on social media, "When a former DGP is not safe in his own house, what will happen to the common man?"
Son has lodged a complaintThe police have registered a murder case against Pallavi and Kriti on the complaint of Om Prakash's son Karthik. Karthik claimed that his mother was mentally unstable, and she committed the crime. But the police are investigating Pallavi's medical records to verify this claim. Was the murder a result of a property dispute, or was there a deeper conspiracy behind it? Did Pallavi commit this crime alone, or was Kriti also involved in it? And the biggest question—was Om Prakash really in danger from his wife, as he told his friends?
The investigation of Bengaluru Police is now looking for answers to these questions. But one thing is certain—the bungalow at 14th Cross, which was once Om Prakash's safe haven, is now witnessing a brutal murder. And the end of this story is yet to come.
