The lack of safety measures along the highway to prevent animals from straying onto the road led to the death of the innocent calf, which was simply trying to cross.
According to information, the accident took place near the Tata Workshop at the Barodonkala tri-junction.
An Alto car was speeding from Goraghat toward Upray village at over 100 km/h. Suddenly, a calf began crossing the road. The car hit the calf, lost control, crossed the divider, crashed into an oncoming truck, and then struck the divider again.
The crash was so intense that the calf was thrown nearly 20 feet into the air and landed about 50 feet away, dying on the spot.
Aman Sahu (22) and Firoz Khan (40), who were in the car, also died immediately. Aman was originally from Malik Pahadi village and was living in Goraghat. Firoz was a resident of Goraghat. Both were on their way to visit a friend in Upray.
The CCTV footage shows that the truck driver did not stop, likely unaware of the collision.
Police reached the scene and struggled to remove the victims’ bodies from the badly damaged car. Station in-charge Kamal Goyal said a case has been registered and an investigation is ongoing.
The families are deeply shocked and unable to speak much about the incident.
