Indore (Madhya Pradesh):In a deeply touching example of a mother’s unconditional love, a 24-year-old youth from Dewas, who had been struggling with kidney failure for five years, received a new lease on life after his mother donated her kidney to save him. The successful transplant was carried out at the Super Speciality Hospital of MGM Medical College, making it the hospital’s second successful kidney transplant since October 2023.
The young man had been suffering from a severe kidney disorder known as IgA Nephropathy, a condition that gradually damages the kidneys’ filtering system. His health had been steadily declining, and for the past two years, he had been completely dependent on dialysis. Despite frequent sessions, there was little improvement in his condition, and doctors ultimately recommended a kidney transplant as the only viable option for survival.

On July 1, a team of specialists at the hospital performed the transplant. The mother's kidney was successfully accepted by the son's body, and his health began to improve soon after the surgery. He has now been discharged and is recovering well.
What made the procedure even more significant was that the entire cost was covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a central government health scheme. This allowed the family to access the life-saving procedure without any financial burden, proving to be a true lifeline.
The transplant was carried out by a dedicated medical team comprising nephrologists Dr Ritesh Kumar Banode and Dr Padmamini Sarkanungo, urologists Dr Arpan Choudhary, Dr Vishal Kirti Jain, Dr Manas, and Dr Deep, anesthetist Dr Deepti Saxena, transplant coordinator Dr Ekta Chaurasia, along with Dr Pradeep Salgiya, Dr Sushil Bhatia, and hospital superintendent Dr Sumit Shukla.
According to Dr Arvind Ghanghoria, dean of MGM Medical College, this was the second successful kidney transplant performed at the hospital. The first took place in October 2023. He added that the hospital is now planning to expand its transplant services, with the goal of conducting at least two kidney transplants every month to benefit more patients suffering from end-stage kidney disease.
