Indore/Mhow (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Saturday announced that the state government would launch a new scheme to bolster milk production and name it after Dr BR Ambedkar to mark his 134th birth anniversary. Talking to reporters in Indore, Yadav said the government aims to make the state number one in milk production with this scheme.

‘Madhya Pradesh's contribution to national milk production is around 9 per cent. Our government has set a target to increase this to 20 per cent through cattle conservation. To achieve this, we will launch a new scheme on the occasion of Dr Ambedkar's birth anniversary,’ he said.

The Chief Minister said the scheme would help increase milk production and the income of the state's farmers. Yadav laid the foundation stone for Indore Municipal Corporation's ‘Kamdhenu Gaushala’ in Ashapura village near Mhow, the birthplace of Dr Ambedkar.

He said that from Sunday, the government is going to begin Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana. Under this, cattle farmers will be given 25 per cent subsidy on purchasing more than 25 cows. This will promote milk production.

The facility will come up in a 25-hectare area and will have a capacity to house more than 10k cows. Addressing a gathering after that Dr Yadav, who hails from a cow herder family in Uttar Pradesh, expressed strong disapproval for those who find the environment of a cow shelter unpleasant, attributing such sentiments to political motivations.

In his address, the Chief Minister stressed the state government's priority towards cow welfare. He announced new schemes to benefit cow herders. Dr Yadav proclaimed, ‘Geeta, Ganga, Gaumata – these are our destiny makers. We are the people who believe in this culture. Those present on stage included Sant Achyutanand Maharaj, Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar, Mhow MLA Usha Thakur, Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and others. Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma oversaw arrangements of the programme.
