Jhuggis To Be Controlled In Urban Areas, Houses Built At Cheaper Rates, Says CM Mohan Yadav

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said the government will prepare a plan to control the rising number of Jhuggi Bastis (slum areas) and build cheaper houses.

Yadav made the statement at a review meeting with the officials of the Urban Administration and Development Department on Thursday. To stop the rising number of slums, the government has to make an alternative arrangement for those who are living in these places, he said.

He told the officials to make a plan for building houses at cheaper rates. Plantation of saplings must be part of the residential projects, he said. He directed the officials to identify the illegal constructions near the Upper Lake and take action through a campaign.

He said the campaign should be launched on the pattern of big cities in the country. He advised the officials to include big builders in developing colonies and modernise fire services. The Chief Minister also directed the officials to start inter-city Namo trains.

He said the government would discuss the issue with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav. Yadav said the shops selling fish and meat should be shifted from inside the city to a suitable place.

As a green and clean environment is a major issue in cities, a plot of land should be acquired to set up Nagar Van (city forests), he said. The process for the promotion should be completed, and employees should be elevated according to the promotion policy, he said.

At the same time, there should be preparations to fill in the vacant posts after promotions, he said. Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said his department had prepared a plan for the development of religious and tourist places.

A development plan worth ₹2,800 crore has been prepared for Chitrakoot, Vijayvargiya said. He said he had told the board to make such plans, keeping in mind the possibilities of a re-densification project.

Metro work to end by 2027

Principal Secretary Sanjay Shukla has said the metro projects of Bhopal and Indore will end in 2027 and operation will begin. Thirty-six water bodies have been restored in urban areas, he said. A plan is ready for the aquifer and for purifying the water of 30 big drains in urban areas, he said.
