Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda’s much-anticipated action drama Jaat witnessed a dip in its box office collection on the second day of its release. After raking in a solid Rs 9.5 crore on its opening day (April 10), the film managed to collect around Rs 7 crore on Day 2, bringing the total to Rs 16.5 crore.
While the Day 1 performance showed promise, the decline on Day 2 indicates mixed audience reception or stiff competition.
Jaat is expected to witness strong box office growth over Saturday and Sunday. If the film manages to score a double-digit collection on Day 3, its extended first weekend total could reach around Rs 40 crore.
The film is currently facing a three-way battle at the box office with Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly, which released on the same day, and Salman Khan’s Eid release Sikandar.
With the weekend approaching, trade analysts believe Jaat still has a chance to bounce back, especially given Sunny’s loyal fan base and Randeep's strong screen presence. The next 48 hours will be crucial in determining whether the film can sustain its momentum or gets overshadowed by the others releases.
It may be mentioned that Jaat has a strong word of mouth in the market, and it the critics and masses who watched it only have good things to say about the masala mass entertainer. Audiences have termed the film as an out-and-out Sunny Deol power flick, and the film is laced with copious amounts of action, emotions, drama and dialoguebaazi.
It even has a reference to Sunny's iconic 'dhai kilo ka haath' dialogue, and videos of the audience cheering and hooting during the scene in theatres have now gone viral.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, Jaat also stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Ayesha Khan, Urvashi Rautela and others in key roles.
