Kamal Haasan's film 'Thug Life' is going to be released in theaters on 5 June 2025. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government has given a big relief to the film industry. The Tamil Nadu government has officially halved the local body entertainment tax. The tax has been reduced from 8% to 4%. The new decision has come into effect from 7 May 2025. It is said that the government has taken this decision to promote the film industry.

According to the reduced rates, a local body tax of 4% will be levied for new Tamil films. Earlier it was 8.6 percent. This will reduce the ticket price. All stakeholders will benefit greatly from the new decision. The move is expected to reduce the ticket price, which will increase the number of viewers in theaters.

FEFSI thanks the government
The Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) has thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin for meeting the long-standing demand of the industry stakeholders.

He had argued that there was a financial burden on the film industry after the pandemic and amid rising production costs. Haasan spoke about the good relations between the DMK government and the film industry and said that the party should take the necessary steps.
