Rohit Sharma has retired from Test cricket. He suddenly informed the world about this decision through an Instagram Story on Wednesday. His decision was shocking because earlier this year on the Australia tour, he denied speculations of retirement from Tests. After this, the team won the Champions Trophy under his captaincy. It seemed that everything was going normal, then Rohit dropped the bomb of retirement from Tests. Neither did he demand a farewell match, nor did he announce it through a press conference. India suffered a major setback with the retirement of two big cricketers in the last six months.

Before Rohit, Ravichandran Ashwin had retired. However, it is certain that from the England tour next month, the team will play under a new captain and go through a phase of change. Rohit was given the responsibility of Test captaincy in 2022. He was given this responsibility after Virat Kohli left the captaincy. Rohit also made many records in this format as a captain, as a player, and as an opener. He also scored a century on his Test debut. Also, he holds the record for hitting the second most sixes by an Indian in Tests. Let's take a look at some of his big and unheard records...
1. Rohit Sharma has scored 12 centuries in Tests, and the special thing about these centuries is that Team India won all these Tests. Apart from Rohit, no other player has scored ten or more centuries in a win. In this case, Warwick Armstrong (6) and Darren Lehmann (5) come after Rohit.

He used to bat in the lower order then. He scored 177 runs on his Test debut at Eden Gardens. India batted just once in this match. After this, Rohit played an innings of 111 runs in the second Test of the series against the West Indies at Wankhede. In this match too, Team India batted only once. Apart from Rohit, Lawrence Rowe, Alvin Kalicharan, Sourav Ganguly and Yasir Hameed are the only other batsmen who have scored centuries in their first two innings after debut.
10. Between February 2021 and July 2023, Rohit crossed the double-digit mark in 30 consecutive innings. This is the longest streak of crossing the double-digit mark by any batsman. That is, apart from Rohit, there is no other batsman who has touched the double-digit mark in his 30 consecutive innings. Rohit scored 1401 runs in those 30 innings at an average of 50.04. He faced 2645 balls during that period. That is, on an average, he played about 94.46 balls in every innings.
