India, already trailing 0-1 in the three-match Test series and staring at another loss against New Zealand in the second Test at Pune.
An upset Virat Kohli was seen speaking to Tom Latham and Tom Blundell as they conversed in the middle of the pitch on Day 2, a day on which India was bowled out for 156 and conceded a 301-run lead at stumps.
The incident occurred when Ravindra Jadeja created a chance in the 37th over of New Zealand's second innings, finding the edge of New Zealand captain Tom Latham’s bat, who was on 68 at the time.
In a viral video on social media, Kohli appeared to be asking them to avoid running down the middle of the pitch. Another video showed Kohli in conversation with the on-field umpire.
Jadeja’s good-length delivery outside off stump drew Latham into playing inside the line, resulting in a fine edge. However, the chance was low and difficult, leaving Indian captain Rohit Sharma with minimal chance to reach it in the slip cordon. The ball zipped away to the boundary, heightening India’s frustration.
Despite restricting New Zealand to 259, the Indian batters struggled to put up runs and were dismissed for cheaply, handing New Zealand a significant lead of 103 runs.
New Zealand were bowled out for 255 on Day 3 of the second Test to set India a victory target of 359 runs.
New Zealand won the opening Test in Bengaluru by eight wickets. The next Test is scheduled in Mumbai from November 1.
