'Is she on drugs?': Donald Trump launches new set of verbal attacks on Kamala Harris, calls the US Vice President 'lazy, stupid'

Donald Trump on Tuesday made several personal and political claims against US Vice President and the Democratic Presidential Nominee, Kamala Harris.

At a Republican Presidential campaign, the former US President referred to the current Vice President of America as "lazy", while simultenously questioning her intelligence and energy.

Trump made the remarks at an event in Miami that was held with an intention to woo Latino voters. During this event, Trump was quoted as saying that Harris was "lazy as hell" for not holding a campaign event.

The former US President went onto describe her as "slow" and possessing a "low IQ."

Harris, meanwhile, was in Washington for meetings and interviews with American broadcasters Telemundo and NBC.

During a rally later in Greensboro, North Carolina, Trump called Harris a "stupid person" and asked, "Does she drink? Is she on drugs?"

Tuesday was the first day in over two weeks that Harris had no public events planned, following two weeks of travel to key states, including a three-state tour on Monday through Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Despite advice from allies to avoid personal attacks, Trump indicated he would continue his remarks about Harris leading up to Election Day. He suggested Harris was chosen as the Democratic nominee due to her race and gender, saying, "She's running because they want to be politically correct."

The Harris campaign did not respond immediately to the "lazy" comment.

However, Ian Sams, a spokesperson for Harris, noted that Trump canceled a Tuesday afternoon town hall with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard before his North Carolina rally.

Sams wrote on X, "Donald Trump continuing his recent trend of canceling campaign events… With just two weeks to go…"

Throughout his career, Trump has questioned the work ethic of opponents. He accused President Joe Biden in 2020 of campaigning from his basement and called Democrat Hillary Clinton physically weak and low-energy in 2016. He has also accused both of drug use.

Trump has a history of controversial remarks regarding people’s racial backgrounds, including Harris'.

The federal government sued Trump in the 1970s for allegedly discriminating against Black apartment seekers.

In the 1980s, he took out a New York Times ad advocating for the death penalty for five Black and Latino teenagers, later exonerated, accused of raping a woman in Central Park.

Recently, the exonerated Five sued Trump for "false and defamatory statements" made during his debate with Harris, including incorrect claims about the crime's details and the suspects' pleas.

Calling Harris "lazy" evokes harmful stereotypes historically used against Black Americans. According to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, such stereotypes aimed to justify slavery.

In his remarks on Harris, Trump referenced unsubstantiated claims circulating in the American far-right circles.
