UPSC CSE 2024 topper list out: Check who topped the Civil Services Examination

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the final results for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024, with Shakti Dubey emerging as the top scorer. Harshita Goyal and Dongre Archit Parag followed closely in second and third positions, respectively.


Shakti Dubey Tops CSE 2024
Shakti Dubey has secured the first rank in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024. A Bachelor of Science graduate in Biochemistry from the University of Allahabad, Dubey achieved the top spot with political science and international relations as her optional subject.


Harshita Goyal and Dongre Archit Parag Take Second and Third Positions
Harshita Goyal, a B.Com graduate from MS University of Baroda, secured the second position, also with political science and international relations as her optional subject. Following closely in third place is Dongre Archit Parag, who holds a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from VIT, Vellore. Parag chose philosophy as his optional subject.


About the UPSC Civil Services Examination
The UPSC Civil Services Examination is conducted annually in three stages: preliminary, main, and interview. It is designed to select candidates for prestigious positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and various other Central Civil Services.

The preliminary examination for CSE 2024 took place on June 16, 2024, with 9,92,599 candidates applying. Of these, 5,83,213 candidates appeared for the exam. A total of 14,627 candidates qualified to appear for the main examination, held in September 2024. Out of these, 2,845 candidates were selected for the personality test or interview round.

Top 5 Candidates and Their Backgrounds
In the final selection, 1,009 candidates (725 men and 284 women) were recommended for various services. Among the top five candidates, three are women and two are men:
  • Shah Margi Chirag, a Bachelor of Engineering graduate in Computer Engineering from Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, secured the fourth rank. She opted for sociology as her optional subject.
  • Aakash Garg, a Bachelor of Technology graduate in Computer Science from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, secured the fifth rank. He also chose sociology as his optional subject.
Diversity Among the Top 25 Candidates
The top 25 candidates comprise 11 women and 14 men, with educational backgrounds spanning various fields such as engineering, humanities, science, commerce, medical science, and architecture. These candidates come from some of the best institutions in the country, including IIT, NIT, VIT, JNU, University of Delhi, and University of Allahabad.

The successful candidates have chosen a wide range of optional subjects, including anthropology, commerce and accountancy, geography, mathematics, philosophy, political science and international relations, public administration, sociology, and Tamil literature.

Inclusion of Candidates with Disabilities
Among the recommended candidates, 45 individuals with benchmark disabilities have been selected. These candidates include:
  • 12 orthopedically handicapped
  • 8 visually challenged
  • 16 hearing impaired
  • 9 with multiple disabilities
The UPSC continues to ensure that the Civil Services Examination remains inclusive and accessible to all eligible candidates.
