Star cricketer suffered a massive disdain ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025, as he was unable to keep the wickets for Rajasthan Royals for the first three games of the tournament due to a finger injury. The Kerala-born featured only as a specialist batter through Impact Substitute option. In his absence, Riyan Parag steered the captaincy journey for the 2008 champions.
After missing a few more games, Samson seems to have resumed his net sessions again, as IPL continues its suspension period, but teams have resumed practicing since it may start any time soon. The franchise has posted a picture of Samson on Monday morning, where the 31-year-old is seen biting his fingers with his practice kit, batting gear on.

Samson was fairly impressive in his role as batter and once he returned to fitness, he took over the captaincy duties, but just four games later, he was hit with another injury on the same spot after the game against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Parag, as a result, was again the leader for the next four games for the side, and these multiple chop-and-changes became the reason for RR's elimination from the playoffs stages of the competition.
RR haven't enjoyed the best of the seasons, winning only three of the 12 games they have played so far. They are also among the three teams to have been thrown out of the playoffs' race, alongside Chennai Super Kings and . The Jaipur and Guwahati-based franchise has two league stage games left before signing off from the 2025 season, one against CSK and the other against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Both the remaining fixtures of RR were scheduled for May 12 and May 16. However, it is very uncertain on when these matches will actually be played and a clarity will be received only when the BCCI announces the revised schedule for the tournament. Both the games will be dead rubber for RR, but Samson will look to end the tournament on a high, as he will next be in preparation for the multi-format series for India against Bangladesh in August.
