Shreyas Iyer was elated after ending his 35-month wait for a First-Class century. His last century came in his debut Test against New Zealand in 2021. On Saturday, October 19, the right-handed batter played an excellent knock of 142 runs which came off just 190 deliveries.

Notably, the fluent knock came against Maharashtra in the 2024-25 clash at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy. The aggressive batter hit 12 fours and four sixes during his entertaining knock. After the day's play, Iyer expressed his feelings after coming back from injury and scoring a First-Class ton after a long time.

“Yeah, feels special. Coming back after a very long time, obviously, I was feeling a bit down with my injuries, but now getting a century after a very long time, it’s a great feeling overall,” a content Shreyas was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

2024 has been a rollercoaster year for the Mumbai cricketer. While he has led his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a title and been a part of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy wins, he has also had to face setbacks like getting dropped from the Test team and being stripped of a BCCI central contract. Shreyas, however, chose to look at the positives.

“You win three championships (Ranji Trophy, IPL and Irani Cup) in a year and what else can you ask for? All I see is the positive things over here and that is winning the trophy and that’s what I want,” Shreyas said.

There have been speculations about 's willingness to play the longest format of the game. However, the KKR captain said that he is eager to perform consistently in red-ball cricket and make a comeback to the Indian setup.

“Absolutely. That’s why I have been playing. I mean, or else I would have given a reason and sat out. I am absolutely keen for a comeback, but yeah, as we say, control the controllables and as always to keep performing and keep participating as much as possible and also see to it that my body is in the best shape. So I will take the best decision possible according to that," Iyer concluded.
