IPL 2025 Final Likely to Shift From Kolkata to Ahmedabad

Send Push

In a significant shift for IPL 2025, the final match, originally scheduled to be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, could now be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The IPL 2025 was forced to be suspended for a week due to increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. This unplanned break has compelled the BCCI to act swiftly in order to resume the tournament. The BCCI has now decided to resume the IPL from May 17 or 18. Some things will change, though, such as the postponement of the final, it is now likely to be played on May 30 instead of May 25. More double-headers will be played for the league stage game, in-order to curb the loss of days.

Why the Final could move to Ahmedabad?

The primary cause of this shift is the weather in Kolkata. The weather forecast for May 30 indicates that there may be cloudy weather and rain. It was reported by a PTI journalist that there is a strong possibility that the final is shifted from Kolkata to Ahmedabad. Weather forecast indicates approximately 65% possibility of rain on May 30, which is the projected new date for the final.

Revised IPL Schedule to be Announced Soon

Once the one-week break, the now plans to resume matches from May 17 or 18 in Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The full updated schedule is likely to be posted by Sunday evening. There are 12 matches remaining, and this includes the four playoff games. This means that the league can potentially require additional doubleheaders in order to wrap up on time.

According to the previous plan, Hyderabad will stage Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, and Qualifier 2 was to be hosted in Kolkata. But now, the final may not be played in Kolkata at all. If the final remains on May 30, then the India A vs England Lions unofficial Test, which also begins on that day, may be postponed because some of the players from the India A team might be playing in the IPL playoffs.
