Joao Pedro breaks silence on Brazil medical scare as Enzo Maresca gets Chelsea injury update

Joao Pedro has provided an update on his condition after vomiting during Brazil's 3-0 win over Chile on Thursday night. Estevao Willian fired Carlo Ancelotti's side to victory at the Maracanã Stadium, as they climbed to second in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers table with one match to spare.

The Chelsea winger put Seleção ahead inside shortly before half-time with an audacious scissor kick from close range - after Raphinha's shot was saved. Then, in the second half, Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães added to Brazil's lead.

During the match, Pedro collided with Gabriel Martinelli, and he was later seen throwing up on the pitch. Speaking to Brazilian outlet Globo after the game, the Blues striker provided an update on his condition.

"I was following the play, running to try to reach the ball," said Pedro. "When I looked ahead, Martinelli was there. We ended up colliding there, hitting my stomach. I felt a little bad but I was calm afterwards."

Fortunately for the striker - who has hit the ground running in west London - the incident wasn't caused by any form of illness or injury. Pedro added: "I'm very happy to be playing good football for Chelsea, to be back with the Brazilian national team.

"I think every boy's dream is to be here, and today I was able to start playing. The goal was missing here; that's part of it. But in the end, what matters is the victory."

The 23-year-old, who joined the Blues from Brighton in the summer for £60m, has scored two goals and provided two assists in just three Premier League appearances this season. Pedro has helped Chelsea climb to second in the table as Enzo Maresca eyes another piece of silverware.

In a recent interview with the Evening Standard, the Brazilian was asked whether the Blues could win the English top-flight. He said: "It's too early to say whether we're going to win it or not. But if you watch us, you'll say we have a good chance. I agree."

On Estevao and Andrey Santos, who also joined Maresca's squad this summer, Pedro went on: "We always stay together at breakfast, lunch, training. I've known Andrey for more than eight years - because we have the same sponsor.

"Andrey is funny, we joke a lot. Estêvão is shy. It's difficult for him to adapt. I try to push him to ask for his breakfast in English. Sometimes training is too long for him and he feels tired before gym.

"I don't always need to do the gym, but I go with him because this is very important for him. He knows how physical the Premier League is. Me and Andrey push him."

On what makes Estevao, who became the youngest player to score a competitive goal for Brazil since Pele at the 1958 World Cup, Pedro added: "Mate, he's from the street.

"You can see he is natural. Tosin [Adarabioyo] said to me; 'João, wow. Estêvão is amazing'. Playing for Brazil and Chelsea at 18, oh my God. He's going to be like Vinícius Jr."
