Jackson and Lavia shine, but three players really poor - Chelsea player ratings vs Liverpool

Send Push

Chelsea have been beaten for just the second time this season at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds edged the encounter 2-1 with the Blues losing on the road for the first time this term.

made three changes to the Blues side that drew with Nottingham Forest before the international break. Reece James returned to the side for his first start of the season, with Romeo Lavia and Tosin Adarabioyo also coming back into the team.

The Blues, though, fell behind in the first half when Levi Colwill tripped Curtis Jones in the box and the referee awarded the hosts a penalty. Mohamed Salah sent Robert Sanchez the wrong way from the spot.

Chelsea, though, replied after the break with Nicolas Jackson producing a fine finish. Liverpool restored their advantage moments later through Jones.

That, unfortunately for Chelsea, is the way it ended. Below, Bobby Vincent rates the Blues players' performances out of 10...

Robert Sanchez - Dodgy with his feet. Too hesitant for Jones' goal. Overall, not a great game from the Spanish goalkeeper. 5.

Reece James - So good to see him back. A really nice moment when he did a little turn to get the better of Cody Gakpo near his own goal. 6.5.

Tosin Adarabioyo - Clumsy moment early on when he brought down Diogo Jota. Brought off in the second half. Not his best day. 5.

Levi Colwill - Poor from Colwill to give away the penalty allowing Liverpool to open the scoring. Not the confident version of himself we have seen up until now. 5.

Malo Gusto - Solid at left-back with James returning. Not as impactful in attacking areas as he would have wished for. 6.

Moises Caicedo - A solid game. Got in front of a Liverpool player quite often it felt like to frustrate the Reds. A great ball to Jackson for his goal, too. 6.5.

Romeo Lavia - Great to see him back in the heart of the Chelsea midfield. Some really nice interceptions, touches and passes under pressure made it a really positive performance from the Belgian at Anfield. 7.

Noni Madueke - Promising whenever isolating Andy Robertson in a one-on-one situation. However, he could not do that enough. 6.

Cole Palmer - Very quiet game by his standards. Struggled to get into any space and Liverpool did a good job dealing with his threat. 5.

Jadon Sancho - He may feel aggrieved he was not awarded a penalty in the first half after an incident with Trent Alexander-Arnold in front of the Kop. 6.

Nicolas Jackson - Did so well for his goal. Perhaps a chance you would have seen Jackson miss last season. A confident, assured finish - ice-cold. 8

Substitutes

Pedro Neto - Gave Alexander-Arnold a busy second-half after coming on for Sancho. Really bright cameo. 7.

Benoit Badiashile - Did okay. Got right into it with Darwin Nunez. 6.

Enzo Fernandez - Played in a deeper role than usual. Did okay, not much of an impact. 6.

Renato Veiga - Very aggressive. Tried to get stuck in on Salah instantly. 6.

Christopher Nkunku - Chelsea's final sub. Couldn't make the desired impact. N/A.
