"We know how important he is for Chelsea. I had it in my mind that if I can keep Cole quiet, that is a huge part of their game gone. He was a little bit free so it was on me to block it," Jones told Sky Sports.

"In this team, you have to run all over the pitch and have energy. I want to help out with goals and assists and do my job defensively." He added: "The win was the most important thing. I was involved in a lot but I am happy we won!"

Today's game was just the second in succession that Jones had started, having been named in the starting lineup by for the prior to the international break.

Following a relatively slow start to the season, it appears the local lad has found his groove and will now look to retain his place for next weekend's huge title-race showdown with at the Emirates Stadium.
